Multiplayer games are games where two or more people can play with each other over the internet, whether it be via the cloud or in an in-house local network (LAN). The game of Sun Haven, has a multiplayer option that allows for up to eight characters to play together in a single world.

Starting a Multiplayer Game

From the main menu, the player will click the Play button, as they would if they were playing a single player game. Rather than clicking on "singleplayer" they will "Multiplayer". If the player is going to host the world, they will click Host & Play. If the player is joining a friend, they will click Connect which will bring up the steam-friends screen and allow the player to join the world.

If the player is the host, it means they will need to have the world pulled up anytime anyone else wants to play. Non-hosts cannot connect to the world without the host online. Once the player has chosen the settings for the world, they will be prompted with creating a new character or using an existing one. Other people will be joining that world and putting houses down on that farm.

If the player is not the host, they have two choices on how to enter the game. A player can choose to create a new character for that world, in which they will have a house in their inventory to put down. If a player does this, and tries to spin up a single player game with that character, they will not have a house in the single player game. The player can also choose to join a multi-player game with a character they already have. This character will visit the hosts world, being able to play with them, but will not be given a house to set down - and can return to their own world at any time.

Multiplayer Settings

Lobby Type

There are two choices for who can join the world; friends and private.

Friends means ...  ? ]
Private means ...  ? ]

Max Players

The maximum number of players any host can have at a time is eight. This slider will set the world cap, so no additional people can join.

Economy

There are two choices for how the economy will work within a multiplayer game; shared and split.

Shared economy means that all players will receive currency on the sale of an item.
Split economy means that only the player that sells the items will receive the currency produced.

Gameplay

Items can be shared between player characters by dropping them on the ground, or putting them in chests.

Quests are progressed individually. The players can do them together, however if someone misses something they will need to go redo it themselves. Boss battles are individual as well ? ] .

Relationships work very similar to single player. All people in the world are able to romance all NPCs, however only one player can marry each NPC at a time. The NPC will move into the players house, after the wedding, if the player has a tier 3 house. Two players cannot marry each other.

Skills

There are many classifications of skills, but for multiplayer there is one difference that makes a larger impact; global skills and non-global skills.

If a skill is labeled as a global skill, then any character that joins that world will automatically get that skill too, even if they have not bought it from the skill tree themselves. However, if that player goes back to their own world, they will loose access to that global skill. If someone with a global skill visits someone who has not unlocked that skill in their skill tree, they will have access to that skill for the duration that player is in their world.

This does not mean that other players shouldn't get the global skills, especially if they travel to other worlds often. There is an achievement for getting all of the skills, so a player will want to grab the global skills eventually, especially if they are an avid achievement hunter.

Non-global skills are individual to the player and will only benefit that specific character.

FAQ

The most commonly asked questions about multi-player, some of these are answered above but think of this as a tl;dr -
Q: Can I marry another Player Character?

A: No, not at this time.

Q: How do skills work?

A: Player skills are mostly individual. There are some global skills that will impact everyone in that world, other players don't have to pick those skills up if they don't want to but it will not hurt if they do. If people want the achievement for all skills, they will need to sink points into them.

Q: Can I split screen?

A: No, not without mods.
