Friendship

Friendship can be measured by the amount of relationship hearts that a player has with an NPC. These relationship hearts can be gained by doing quests (all NPCs) and giving gifts (only romanceable NPCs).

Currently, relationship levels are only shown for romanceable NPCs, all other townsfolk have no indication until the player reaches 5 hearts with them. Many of the townsfolk have an in game mail that they send to the player upon reaching 5 hearts.

Romance

Romance in Sun Haven allows the player to build relationships with many different Romance Candidates by increasing friendship levels, unlocking the ability to date and eventually marry. There is no jealousy system, so the player may date multiple characters but can only marry one at a time. Higher relationship levels unlock new dialogue, date events, keepsakes, and the option to have a child.

Gifting

Gifting is a key method for increasing friendship with romanceable NPCs. To offer a gift, the player must first equip the item in their hotbar and then speak to the NPC. The NPC will automatically accept the item at the start of the conversation. Each NPC can receive a maximum of two gifts per week, so the player must choose wisely.

Gifted items fall into one of several preference tiers: Loved, Liked, Good, or Disliked. These tiers directly influence how many friendship points the player earns. Some items are categorized as universally loved or liked, meaning they are generally appreciated by most NPCs. However, many NPCs also have individual preferences that override universal rules—if a specific preference is defined, it will take priority over the general category.

Gifts can only be given to romanceable NPCs. Non-romanceable characters will not accept gifts, so the player should focus their efforts on eligible NPCs if building relationships is a priority. Paying attention to gifting preferences is essential for progressing through heart events and unlocking deeper interactions.

Each romance candidate has a section on their page that will give the player a list of loved, liked, and disliked items unique to the preferences of that character.
