The house's exterior will change in appearance, but not in size. The exterior of the house will always be 11 (width) x 7 (height).

Upgrading the House

To upgrade the player's house, they must first purchase the appropriate building upgrade from Emmett at the Town Hall. The player then must combine these permits with other resources at the Construction Table to finish crafting their house upgrade. Once the upgrade has been created, the player needs to use the house upgrade on their house. Once the upgrade is applied, the house upgrade is immediate no additional building time is needed. Applying the house upgrade, only makes the player's house bigger, it does not allow the player to move the house at the same time.

The player is not able to jump from a tier 1 house to a tier 3 house. They must build a tier 2 house before being able to apply the third building upgrade. Each additional upgrade gives additional rooms to the players house and provides an exterior change. The outer dimensions of the house do not change with each upgrade, and will always be 11 (width) x 7 (height).

The player is able to marry their spouse before having a tier 3 house, however the house must be tier 3 to have their spouse move in with them. If the player chooses to have children, they must upgrade to a tier 3 or they will never get the option to do so.

Moving the House

To move the house, the player must buy a Demolition Kit from Emmett at the Town Hall. Once the player has the demolition kit on their inventory bar, they can use it on their house to demolish it, and move it to a different place. When the player demolishes their house, they loose all items inside of their house and it goes back to a tier 1 house. The player will need to re-craft all upgrades for their house, and reapply building customizations.

Prior to moving the house, the player should remove all furniture from the house. They player can pick up furniture by equipping their pickaxe and hitting the desired item with it. If the player is in range, and has inventory space, the item will go back into the players inventory.

House Customization

Interior

The player can customize the walls of their house with wallpaper. Each room and hallway can be individually changed with wallpaper, and wallpaper is not a one time use item. The player can use wall decorations on top of the wallpaper. The player is able to change wallpaper even if that wall has items on it.

Interior flooring can not be changed at this time.

The player has the ability to fill their house with all different types of furniture, whatever fits their personal aesthetic. Houses aren't limited to only furniture, as the player can also put crafting stations within buildings.

Exterior

The player can customize the exterior of their house by buying various items from the Hardware Store. The player is able to mix-and-match various doors, patios, roofs, walls, and windows. These style choices will persist through house upgrades.

If the player is looking for a tool to help them design the exterior their house, we suggest checking out The Haven Decorator.

Spouse Rooms

If the player has a Tier 3 house, once they get married their spouse will move in. Each romanceable NPC has their own style of room that gets added to the player's house. This room appears on the right side of the house and does not alter the external size or style.
