Ready to start editing?! Feel free to jump right in and start editing pages! Any normal text on the screen can be edited as you would on a word document. Many uniform sections across the wiki, have been converted to use templates (see below for more information), so to add to those sections you may need a crash course on how to use templates. The templates we use are similar to other Fandom Wikis; so if you have had experience elsewhere these should be easy to pick up.

As always, we are here to help! If you are unsure of something, feel free to comment on the page (at the bottom), reach out to an admin by writing on their wall, or (the fastest way) reach out to us in the official discord #Wiki channel.

Templates

If you ever have any questions on how to use the templates on a page, a lot of the wiki's templates have really great documentation, explaining what data is pulled and from where, how to use that template, situations to use that template in.

To view the documentation of a template, go to that templates page. You can see a list of templates used on a page below the source editor. Just click on that link, and it will take you to the documentation. Additionally you can see a list of all [here]. If there is a template that does not have good documentation, please let us know so we can fix it!

Use of Templates

A lot of our pages use templates. It is highly recommended you edit pages using "Source Mode", as using the Visual Editor will often break the infobox thus forcing a rollback of your changes. Source Editor also allows the use of templates, which we use a lot of so we don't have a lot of hard-coded data everywhere.

An editor will know its a template if the text is in purple (while in Source Editor). We use templates for two things: (1) Pulling data from other pages' infoboxes, so we don't have hard-coded data in places (meaning we only have to update it in one place). and (2) to keep pages uniform, displaying the same types of data in the same way, and reduce copy/paste errors.

Item Icons

The most common template users will see in the wiki is the {{icon}} template. This template adds the image of the item, along with a link to that items page automatically.

Please remember, not everything needs an image associated with it while writing out information. In Infoboxes, it is generally used for most things; but in blocks of text, it should be reserved for mainly items. There will always be exceptions to this (like in tables), follow what you see on the page already.

Currency

The {{Currency}} Template is also one that the user will see a lot. This keeps all currency uniform on the wiki. Please view the template page for more information on all of the different currencies this template handles.

{{Currency|CURRENCYNAME|AMOUNT}}

DPL Editing

We have converted pages to use a DPL format. At a very high level DPL allows us to query categories and pull the data to other pages. Many of our templates will either create categories for DPL use, or read those categories to pull the data back to a certain page. For more information on DPL templates and how we use them please see Help:Editing DPL

Uniform Pages

Editors (and visitors) will notice that a lot of pages look the same, and offer very similar data points. This is by design. It helps us leverage templates, to keep everything looking uniform and make sure we're giving people the information they are looking for. Is there data you would like to see on the page? Drop us a note in the Wiki channel of the official discord to let us know about it!

One of the other benefits to doing it this way, is novice editors can look at pages that are similar in type, and deduce how the templates work, or how things should be displayed. If you're editing a page and don't know how to do it, there is a good chance someone has done what you need to do on a similar page.

Please see: Category:Page_Layout_Guides for how to layout pages. This will give a rundown of position of content, headers for those areas, and templates.

Still stumped? No problem! Reach out to an admin on the wiki (by writing on their wall) or drop us a line in discord for individual help! We are happy to teach the next generation of editors.
