Sun Haven Mines

From Sun Haven Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Sun Haven Mines are found in the bottom-right corner (southeast) of Sun Haven and are, as the name suggests, used primarily for mining purposes. Players who descend into the mines will find ore, gems, stones, and other valuables. However, the mines are not without danger, as the players will face increasingly stronger monsters further down. It is a good spot to get experience for combat, exploration, and mining for players who wish to further their skills in those skill trees.

Overview

Players can enter the mines via the minecart right next to Solon's Smithery. The minecart is also the only way to further delve into the depths of the mine or to leave it.

Unlocking floors

When interacting with the minecart, a menu will be opened up, which shows the sections and floors that are available to the player. By default, only the first floor will be unlocked. The mine offers 50 floors in total and provide players with a treasure chest for every 10 floors conquered.

Travel however is restricted by gates that need to be unlocked with keys. The player usually has the option to acquire one of two keys to unlock.

Rusty Key.png Rusty Keys are able to open up the next floor for the remainder of the day. Any gate that has been unlocked this way will be locked again the next day. They cannot be used to open the next 11-floor section, such as going from treasure room 1 to floor 11 - such gates need player-forged keys as well as all previous levels unlocked with forged keys. Rusty keys can be found in stone, ore, or gem deposits as well as breakable containers. Alternatively, rusty keys can also be acquired from monsters by players who possess the Quick Escape.pngQuick Escape skill. One rusty key will spawn on any floor where the gate has not been unlocked already (generally takes about 20 mined rock nodes/destructibles to find). Rusty keys do not drop on Floor 50 (to get to Treasure Room #5). Rusty keys will disappear when you proceed to the next level of the mines (by opening the gate with a forged key after finding a rusty key on that floor) or when you leave the mines.

The alternative to rusty keys - which are also not restricted by certain gates - is to craft metal bars from ore using the Furnace.png Furnace, which then allows one to craft keys from the bars using the Anvil.png Anvil. These keys can be used to permanently unlock the door to the next floor (and you receive some mining experience when using them). When descending into the next 11 level section of the mine, higher metal grade keys will be necessary. Keys are consumed once they have been used to unlock a floor, requiring the player to travel many times down the mines to acquire more ore and, in return, craft more keys.

Once the gate has been unlocked, players can simply return to the minecart and use it to travel to the next floor.

In total, 11 copper keys, 10 Iron Keys, 11 Adamant keys, 10 Mithril Keys, 10 Sunite Keys, 1299 Stone, 30 Copper Ore, 10 Iron Ore, 15 Adamant Ore, 10 Mithril Ore, 2 Rubies, and 2 Diamonds are required to progress from Floor 1 to Treasure Room #5.

Floors

As stated previously, there are 50 floors and 5 treasure rooms to progress through, divided into five sections (for each corresponding ore type). Ore is, however, not entirely restricted to certain sections. Often players can find ore from the next sections in the previous, such as iron ore appearing on floor 9 and 10 and lower quality ore can still appear on floors deeper down the descent.

  • Iron Ore can appear on floor 9+
  • Adamant Ore can appear on floor 19+
  • Gold Ore can appear on floor 20+
  • Mithril Ore can appear on floor 29+
  • Sunite Ore can appear on floor 39+

Also, there are breakable pots and, later on, crystal crates that can be destroyed with a Sword, Pickaxe, or Scythe for ore, stone or gems. Seldomly, there are also random unlocked treasure chests with a good amount of Coins.pngCoins inside.

Crystals can also be found within the mine. Fire Crystal.png Fire Crystals can be found on floors with lava, while Water Crystal.png Water Crystals can be found on floors with water.

Treasure floors

Every tenth floor is followed by a Treasure Floor. These are small rooms which contain only an unlocked treasure chest with a reward as well as a gate/Ore Muncher barring further progress. The Treasure Floor gates cannot be opened with rusty keys (nothing spawns in the rooms to drop them).

Ore Muncher

Ore Muncher 2.jpg

The Ore Muncher is a large creature that blocks the progress past floor 20 and 40 of the mines, which do not require a gate to be unlocked. Much like a Snaccoon, the player must feed the creature a specific amount of stone, ore, and gems that it likes to unlock passage to the next floor. These resources are all found within the mines.

Monsters

While traversing the mines, the players will, as previously stated, face increasingly dangerous monsters. However, when using the ore present in the mines, the players can craft weapons and armor that will help them see eye to eye with their foes.

The Final Floor

Players who manage to traverse the mine to Treasure Room #5 will face the boss Dizzy (after striking the strange ore with your pickaxe a couple of times). Sunite-level gear (requires Combat level 40 to equip) as well as plenty of health restoring food/potions are highly recommended for the battle. Players who defeat Dizzy will be rewarded with the achievement Achivement ToTheBottom.jpgTo the Bottom. Dizzy is the sole source of the Dizzite.png Dizzite gem, which is used only to sell as well as for the Museum to complete the Gems Bundle. In addition, Dizzy's defeat will spawn some nodes of Beryl, Citrine, Emerald, Lapis, Tanzanite and Tourmaline gems randomly, which can be mined and are only used for selling. Dizzy also drops a pet version of themselves, Dizzlette.png Dizzlette. Dizzy can be re-battled after a couple of days elapse in game.

There is a known glitch where traveling straight to Treasure Room #5 from outside of the mine causes Dizzy's ore formation not to be targetable as well as making Floor 50 completely empty. This can be fixed by leaving the mine and re-entering to Level 50 first and then to Treasure Room #5.
