Dealing with a Dragon

The quest Dealing with a Dragon is an introductory main story mission. This quest introduces the player to Kitty, and also serves as an introduction to Fishing, as the player will be given a fishing rod during the course of this quest.

Main quests are a series of quests the player must accomplish in order to complete the core narrative of the game. These are quests that tell the adventure of the player and their journey, as they travel through the world of Sun Haven. These quests often have many steps to them, with each step having its own requirement to proceed to the next.

Steps

  1. Talk to Lucia at town hall.
  2. Meet Peter at the southern docks.
    Work with him to get the fish that is needed.
  3. Bring the chunky grouper to Kitty.
  4. Return to Kitty for the dragon chow.
  5. Meet Solon at the smithery.
  6. Visit the general store.
  7. Return to the quarry.
  8. Time to Relax.

Walkthrough

Archmage's Advice

Solon has decided that the player is helping him with his dragon problem and he's asked them to go to town hall to speak to Lucia. The player should head to town hall and let Lucia know what the issue is.

Following this instruction, player will then head west out of the quarry and north past the General Store, Farming Store, and Sun Haven bulletin board. Just north of the fountain is the town hall. Once the player enters the building, a new cutscene will play.

Face Lucia.png: Yes... so long as the borders of Sun Haven are secure, we can continue to keep a watch over the train station. The path to the northern forest should remain closed to citizens, for their own safety.
Face Bernard.png: The northern forest must be quite dangerous right now. Captain, are you sure your soldiers are safe?
Face Nathaniel.png: Of course, we've got it all under control. Sun Haven has all the time it needs to figure out its next step.
Face Lucia.png: Oh, it's [Player]! What's brought you to town hall?
Player: I was looking for you, Lucia.
Face Lucia.png: Is that so? I was just wrapping up a little meeting with Bernard and Nathaniel, so I believe I am free to help. Just a moment.
Let's meet again on this issue later, shall we?
What is it that you needed, [Player]?
Player: A baby dragon is causing trouble in the quarry.
Face Lucia.png: Oh dear, is that little dragon still causing rock slides? We were hoping Solon, gruff as he is, would be able to frighten it away. Though for some reason it keeps coming back...
Hmm...
I think we could try luring the dragon to the ground, where it can be captured and relocated. But we'll need to use some kind of bait...
Face Kitty.png: ...!
I couldn't help but overhear, nya! Did you say you were having trouble with a little baby dragon?
Player: That's right. Sorry if our conversation interrupted you.
Face Kitty.png: Not at all, nya nya! I came here to renew my business license for the pet shop, but I don't need to renew my license until next month nyan...
But that's okay! Because now I think I can help you with your paw-blem!
Face Lucia.png: Oh really, Kitty? That's wonderful to hear!
[Player], meet Kitty, she sells barn animals here in Sun Haven. Town Hall sells permits for barns, but you'll have to stop at Kitty's shop for animals!
Face Kitty.png: Nya! Nice to meet you!
Anyways, on the subject of your baby dragon... I don't know muuuch about baby dragons, but I do know that they love to eat fish - just like Kitty, nya!
If Kitty was a baby dragon, Kitty would nest at the quarry because it's so close to the ocean! (so many yummy fishies in the ocean, nya!)
I bet if you had a good, juicy fish you could get it to land right on the ground!
Player: Okay, so I just need a fish?
Face Kitty.png:
Face Lucia.png: This plan is a bit spur of the moment... but it just might work!
I believe Peter, our local fisherman, could probably help you out with catching an appropriate fish. You can probably find him at the southern docks right now.
Face Kitty.png: Hehe, you get me a proper fish and I'll take care of the rest, nya!
Player: I'll check my map.
Player: Sounds like a plan... 'nya'!

A Special Fish

The player needs to catch an especially juicy fish to use as bait for the baby dragon. They should speak with Peter on the docks at Sun Haven to learn how I can do that.

The player will then head south, towards the Beach. Once the player has reached the beach, they should continue south onto the docks. A cutscene will begin when the player is about halfway to the end of the dock.

Face Peter.png: Hoy there. Eh? You look like you need something from me. Well, what is it?
Player: I need help catching a special fish.
Face Peter.png: Oh yeah? What kind of 'special' fish are we talking about?
You briefly recount the situation to Peter, who listens with a quiet smirk, nodding along as you talk.
Face Peter.png: Oh yeah? So why don't you go on and catch this fish yourself?
Player: I don't have a fishing rod...
Player: Fish scare me.
Face Peter.png:
Player: Wow, thanks for the rod! Can I catch the fish I need now?
Face Peter.png: It seems like we don't have time to waste. Let me handle this one, you just stand back and take it easy, alright?
Player: Uh, Peter?
Player: What's the hold up?
Face Peter.png: Now watch closely as I demonstrate an ancient fisherman's art to you...
...Putting a worm...
...On a hook!
Player: Fascinating.
Player: Ew.
Face Peter.png: Alright, the hook's all loaded up. I'll have your fish in a jiffy, don't you worry.
Player: You can do it, Peter.
Player: Fair enough.
Face Peter.png: Eh?! This guy again? I wasn't fishin' for you, get offa' my line!
Sorry, [Player]. This is maybe a little too 'big and juicy' for a single baby dragon...
Player: Put it back, put it back!!
Face Peter.png: Alright, alright! Hold your horsefish!
Let's try that again...
Here we go! These chunky groupers are nice and fatty. Not too agreeable with most people's tastes, but I bet your baby dragon couldn't resist it if it tried! Here you go.
Player: Thanks a lot!

Kittys Advice

Peter caught an appropriate fish to use as bait to catch the baby dragon. The player should bring it to Kitty so she can prepare it properly.

The player will then need to bring the chunk grouper to Kitty. The player can open the map by pressing (default) M and look for kitty's icon on the map. Her face-icon will also have an orange "?" above it.

Face Kitty.png:"Hello again! Do I smell a big, tasty food in your pack, hehe? Just hand it here and I'll make it into some yummy baby dragon food, nya!
Just visit me tomorrow, okay? I'll have some yummy baby dragon food prepared for you then!"

Take the rest of the day to do whatever needs to be wrapped up for the day. Return to the players' house and sleep.

Baby Dragon Chow

Kitty told the player to visit her tomorrow to pick up the dragon chow. They should find Kitty again and talk to her.

At any time the next day, the player can speak with Kitty and get the quest item needed for the next step. Once again, the player can find Kitty by opening the map by pressing (default) M and looking for kitty's icon on the map. Her face-icon will still have an orange "?" above it.

Face Kitty.png:"Back for your dragon food, nya? It's a good thing you didn't forget, because your baby dragon is going to looove this, nya! here you go!"

Plan in action

Kitty has prepared the fish into appropriate baby dragon bait. The player should bring it to Solon so the baby dragon can be lured in.

The player will then head back to the smithery. A new cutscene will play when they enter the building.

Face Solon.png: Ah, you're back! Does this mean you've gotten what we need for that pesky little lizard?
Player: Yup, right here.
Face Solon.png: Great, let's see it.
... .... ...
Wait, what is this? ...Yuck!
But this should make perfect dragon bait, good work.
While you were out catching fish, I put in an order for a dragon trap over at the general store. You head over there and pick it up for me, and we'll catch this pest before it does anymore harm.
Player: I'm on it.
Player: Alright... be right back, then.

The Trap

Solon has placed an order for a 'dragon trap' at the general store. The player should go pick it up for him and bring it back to the quarry.

The player will then travel back to the General Store. When the player gets close to the counter, a new cutscene will play.

Face Emmett.png: You're here for Solon's order?
Player: Yup!
Face Emmett.png: Alright, give me a second.
Alright, here it is!
...What do you mean
Player: Well, if you say so.

Backsmith vs dragon

After the trap has been retrieved, head back to the quarry, and another cutscene will play outside of solons shop.

Face Solon.png: Did you get the trap, farmer?
Player: Sure did. One... uh, 'premium dragon trap', right here.
Player: It's literally just a wooden crate, but yes I have it.
Face Solon.png: Nevermind the specifics! Quick, let's rig the trap before that dragon gets back.
Player: Sure thing.
Player: Jeez, someone's bossy...
Face Solon.png: That should do it.
Quick, follow me. Let's get into hiding and wait for the dragon to show up.
Player: Alright.
Face Solon.png: There it is! Head down, farmer! I think it's going right for the bait!
Player: Here it comes.
Player: Ouch, you're stepping on my foot!
Player: Ouch, you're stepping on my tail! (Naga Only ? ] )

Darn! It doesn't seem to be going for the bait.

Player: What do we do now?
Player: Well? Any brilliant ideas?
Face Solon.png: I've got another idea. Stay here, farmer.
Player: What kind of idea?
Solon pulls out a half-eaten mutton drumstick from his apron pocket.
At least you THINK it's mutton... with how he's holding it, it sure looks more like a club...
Face Solon.png: I was saving this for lunch, but it oughta be heavy enough to knock the bugger out...
Player: What are you doing?!
Face Solon.png: I'm not going to hurt it, I'm just going to... bop it on the head and knock it out.[]Then you can take it safely away from Sun Haven for good.
Stay still you little...
Player: Wait, stop!
Face Solon.png: What?! I almost have this little lizard just where I want it!
Player: Solon, you can't just BOP the baby dragon!
Face Solon.png: Why not?!
Player: It's an innocent little dragon.
Face Solon.png: Sorry, farmer. But if we don't do this right, he'll just come back again. I'm going to do it.
Player: We can try another trap.
Face Solon.png: Sorry, farmer. But this ends here. We aren't wasting more time with cheap traps. I'm going to do it.
Player: You'll ruin your perfectly good lunch.
Face Solon.png: Forget about the mutton, farmer. This ends here. I'm going to do it.
Face Solon.png: Stay back, you little beast! Don't come any closer!
J-just stand still! I mean it!
Oh, come on! Go away! Shoo! Get out of here, grr!
I'm warning you...!

...Grrr...
Well what are we supposed to do now?!
Player: I think it likes you.
Player: It seems friendly.
Face Solon.png: Hmph. Why do you have to be so destructive?
Player: It looks like it wants to be your friend.
Face Solon.png: ...
Player: Do you think the dragon could be tamed?
Face Solon.png: That's silly talk, farmer! It would never work.
No, I don't care how cute you are! You can't stay! You have to go!
I- I mean it...!
Player: What about for just a little while?
Face Solon.png: ...
Grrr...
...
...
Player: Solon?
Face Solon.png: Okay, fine. But ONLY until it's big enough to fend for itself. And no more causing messes!
I mean it!
Solon grumbles and kicks a rock, sending it sailing across the length of the quarry.
The baby dragon cuddles against Solon's leg, seeming rather content. Solon mumbles to himself.
Player: I was glad to help.
Player: I'm glad the baby dragon is safe and sound.

Time to Relax

Finish the day and go to bed. The next quest will begin the next day.
