❝ So you want to be a Mage? A noble and lofty aspiration, to be sure. Some level of magical capability is innate to all living creatures, though it takes an especially gifted (and talented) individual to manifest such potential powers into actual abilities.
Of course, if you're planning to seriously become a Mage you'll need to pass a strict set of exams. At least if you wish to be formally recognized by the Department of Magi. The Department of Magi is an organization that oversees the training and official certification of Mages throughout the Four Regions. Overseeing the Department is, of course, the Archcouncil. The Archcouncil are a council of Mages who have ascended to the highest level of mastery over their Mage art. Mages invited to join the Archcouncil are given the title of Archmage, and serve as the most studied and powerful spellcasters in the world. Have you what it takes to ascend to the awesome heights of an Archmage? Perhaps! But before you can even think of such a thing, you must start with the basics. Most spell users will excel in a specific element of magic that is most natural to them. On a basic level, this means the elements of Fire, Water, Wind and Earth. Other higher elements exist - but we shall save these for a future chapter. An Archmage is a master of at least one school of elemental magic and can demonstrate some proficiency in the other three elemental schools. <The next several thousand pages are dense and incredibly monotonous essays on magical theories and excercies... blah blah blah, you'd rather shoot fireballs at monsters!> ❞ | |
