Confronting Dynus

From Sun Haven Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This quest revolves around Dynus and how the player wants to defeat him. The player can choose to complete several of the altars in the altar room, to appease him, or they can fight him. Both options have the same quest end reward. If the player chooses to fight Dynus, they can still opt to finish the altars afterward for the altar rewards. The player is able to fight Dynus more than once, to collect all of the quest rewards, however they can only complete the altars once.

Main quests are a series of quests the player must accomplish in order to complete the core narrative of the game. These are quests that tell the adventure of the player and their journey, as they travel through the world of Sun Haven. These quests often have many steps to them, with each step having its own requirement to proceed to the next.

The Altar Room

After speaking with Darius as part of The Kings Favor, the player should already be in Withergate Castle. The altar room is through two sets of northern doors. Once the player enters the altar room, they will have a conversation with the Altar Keeper.

Face Altar Keeper.png: Oh, hello. Are you here to make an offering to gain the Moon Dragon's good graces?
Player: I'm going to stop Dynus.
Face Altar Keeper.png: As you can see, this is the altar room. These are the altars at which peasants such as yourself may present an offering to the Moon Dragon in an attempt to gain his blessing.
Simply place a tribute in the correct altar and Dynus shall receive it when the altar is full. When you're ready, Dynus is in the next room straight ahead.
Be warned, none yet have made an offering that the Moon Dragon has deemed satisfactory.
Player: Can you explain the altars?
Face Altar Keeper.png: Oh, dear. That must mean you came here to fight the Moon Dragon himself. Well, thank you for letting me know. It's always easier to clean up his challengers when I have warning.[]Dynus is in the next room straight ahead. And allow me to extend my sympathies, for your imminent loss.
Once both options have been discussed, the Altar Keeper moves towards one of the altars.
Face Altar Keeper.png: Finally, let me show you how to use the altar. Check the altar to see what you need for this offering.

The Moon Dragon

The player should head into Dynus' lair, through the door on the northern wall of the altar room.

Dynus Intro Cutscene
Face Dynus.png: I can sense your tenacity...
Face Dynus.png: Ah... Elios's pupil. I've heard of your accomplishments, [Player]. Now you've finally come... You took your time.

Amari dialogue icon.png
Ah... Elios's tiny pupil. I've felt your power... called out to it. You've felt it... haven't you, [Player]? Now you've finally come... Let me get a look at you. Step... into the light...

Amari dialogue icon.png
...Amari? Your kind has forsaken... the wild's call. But you still have strength... to offer.
Face Dynus.png: Now that you're here... what is it you want?
Player: Why are you spreading darkness in the world?
Face Dynus.png: You came all this way to ask me that... What waste of time.[]The monsters of the world... thrive in darkness. They need a home... and I need an empire.
It's my responsibility to share Withergate's prosperity with the world... Soon, there will be a new world order, under me... under darkness.
Player: But your darkness will cover Sun Haven!
Player: Your empire will never grow past Withergate.
Face Dynus.png: It is the nature of an empire... to grow. Even the people of Sun Haven... will learn to live in the dark.[]You, like all others... are powerless against my will. Your resistance... is a mere joke.
Player: Why do you need all those gems?
Face Dynus.png: The gems beneath me are glorite... well, some are glorite. The others are... exquisite additions to my hoard.
Player: Why do you need glorite?
Player: So you're just greedy.
Face Dynus.png: Has Elios taught you nothing? Glorite... is mana. It is the strongest source of magical power in the world... and my crystal hoard is full of it.[]The crystals beneath me... fuel the spell that keeps Withergate in darkness.
Player: I'm here to stop your spell.
Face Dynus.png: Of course you are... Why else would Elios send a hero? Although... he should have sent someone bigger... You will crumble to my might.
Player: I want to make an offering.
Face Dynus.png: Ah... you would barter for the Human town? Perhaps you aren't such a fool after all... Go on then, make your offering... in my altar room.[]Return to me when you've made your offering. But know the price of my satisfaction... is steep.
Player: I'm going to take you down!
Face Dynus.png: You're not the first to challenge me... and won't be the last.[]Do you hear it? ... Darkness beckons.

If the player chooses to barter with Dynus, he will allow the player to leave his den.

Confronting Dynus

It's time to choose whether to risk fighting Dynus or to appease him with an offering by completing at least seven altars in the altar room.

Fighting Dynus is a difficult fight, and the game will warn you before you choose to proceed that you should be prepared. Dynus has 90,000 health. If the player chooses this path and wins, a Dynus will say:

Face Dynus.png:"ENOUGH!!
This can't be... it must be a trick. I am the most powerful being in the world! Yet...
... You are mightier than expected. And for such a tiny creature... XX, you fight with the tenacity of a dragon. Perhaps I underestimated you.
However... the darkness spell drains my energy. Were we to fight at my full power, surely you would bow to me then.
Lucky for you... I cannot release my spell of darkness, so for now I must offer a stalemate.
I will agree to cease the spread of my darkness... but I will keep my crystal hoard to maintain the darkness over Withergate.
I welcome a rematch with you, little warrior. Come fight me again if you crave the sport... but know that I won't be holding back... All your efforts... for those people? This is what makes you weak... you hold sentiment where there should be ambition.
Still, you have proven yourself loyal and capable. Your help could be instrumental... in future endeavors.
If the price of your loyalty means stopping my darkness, then I will respect your foolish request... for now.
I will keep my crystal hoard to maintain the darkness... only over Withergate.
I underestimated your determination, XX... You would make a brilliant ruler for Sun Haven. What a shame you would rather be... a pointless hero."

Once the player has either defeated Dynus, or appeased him, the player will complete the quest, earn their rewards, and Dynus will agree to pull back the darkness.
